MERC funds peer-reviewed collaborative research projects between Israel and its Arab neighbors.

Partners to Date

Israel, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Tunisia, and the West Bank and Gaza.

Additional Eligible Countries

Algeria, Bahrain, Kuwait, Iraq, Libya, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, and the United Arab Emirates.

 
 
The program seeks applied research and technology development proposals within the broad areas of the natural, physical, and social sciences and engineering. Investigators are encouraged to integrate social science approaches, economics and the use of computer technology into the research where appropriate.
 
 
  1. Applied research grants:
    Multi-year, cooperative research projects

    Budget: up to $1,000,000 (average $600,000)
    Duration: 2-5 years
  2. Continuation grants:
    Funding to extend existing or recently ended MERC awards

    Budget: up to $500,000
    Duration: 1-3 years
  3. Travel and workshop grants:
    Support for workshops, meetings, and researcher exchange

    Budget: up to $100,000
    Duration: N/A
  4. Special Call: Proposals Supporting Negev Forum Priorities
    under tracks 1-3 mentioned above.
