תיאור

Helmsley Charitable Trust’s aims to support the discovery and development of new therapies that will prevent or delay the development of T1D.

Helmsley T1D Program seeks to fund studies that aim to understand how the environment experienced during prenatal development influences development of islet autoimmunity during childhood.

Of specific interest are research plans that include:

  • Establishing a cohort during pregnancy (mothers need not have T1D), including required supportive infrastructure, designed to address a specific hypothesis(es) around prenatal environment and islet autoimmunity, including related to protection from disease initiation;
  • Collecting and analyzing clinical and/or environmental data; and
  • Collecting and analyzing human samples.
  • Developing or validating preclinical or clinical therapies to prevent or delay T1D that mimic aspects of natural protection.

Funding: $3,000,000 total for new cohort building projects

Duration: 3 years
