Role of Astrocytes in Degeneration of the Neurovascular Unit in AD/ADRDs (R01)

This grant invites basic disease-related research to address a gap in the basic research on the mechanisms of reactive astrogliosis in degeneration of the neurovascular unit that contributes to cognitive impairment and dementia. Astrocytes, due to their overlapping roles regulating the blood brain barrier, neuronal health and response to degenerating cells, are uniquely positioned to be therapeutic targets for the AD/ADRDs.
