Office of Science: Terrestrial Ecosystem Science (TES) program

The goal of TES is to improve the representation of terrestrial ecosystem processes in Earth system models thereby improving the quality of complex Earth and environmental model projections. Applications to this FOA should take a systems approach to understand ecosystems
over the multiple temporal and spatial scales represented in models. 

Science Area 1 – Interactions and Feedbacks between Above- and Belowground Processes

Science Area 2 – Ecological Controls and Feedbacks on the Methane Cycle

Science Research Area 3 – Hydro-Biogeochemistry, Biogeochemistry and Geochemistry research to advance understanding of watershed function at existing watershed testbeds

Science Research Area 4 – Hydro-biogeochemistry, Biogeochemistry and Geochemistry research to study the functioning of watershed structural components that are novel to the SBR program

The program will support standard (large) grants and exploratory (high risk|) grants

Funding: Large grants $1,000,000  total ; Exploratory grants $300,000  total
